A little goes a long way

Apply a small amount of Mane & Tail Elixir to your hands and work evenly through the mane or tail, concentrating on the lengths and ends.

Leave for a minute or two to let the conditioning ingredients get to work, then gently brush through.

Use on wet or dry hair — no rinsing required.

For best results, apply after every mane & tail wash and use 2–3 times a week between washes to keep hair soft, conditioned and protected from everyday breakage.

TOP TIP: If you're trying to grow a longer mane or tail, apply before brushing. The extra slip helps reduce pulling and snapping as you work through the hair.

How often should I use Mane & Tail Elixir?

As often as your horse needs it. For the best long-term results, we recommend using it 2–3 times a week, as well as after washing. Regular conditioning helps keep hair soft, manageable and less vulnerable to tangles and everyday breakage.

What's changed in the new formula?

We've taken everything we loved about the original Elixir and given it a serious upgrade. The new formula uses an enhanced blend of plant-derived conditioning ingredients, Pro-Vitamin B5, Vitamin E and lightweight emollients for an even more luxurious conditioning experience.

It's still silicone-free, vegan and designed to care for the hair over time — it just feels even more gorgeous.

Why doesn't it contain silicone?

Silicones are often used in mane & tail products because they can create instant slip, smoothness and shine. We wanted Mane & Tail Elixir to be more than a quick cosmetic fix.

Instead, we've created a silicone-free leave-in conditioner using high-performance conditioning ingredients to soften, smooth and improve manageability while helping protect against everyday tangles and breakage.

Will it help my horse grow a longer mane or tail?

Mane & Tail Elixir isn't specifically a hair-growth treatment — but it helps protect the hair your horse grows. This is critical as hair that has been rubbed out often grows back weaker and more vulnerable.

Keeping long hair conditioned and easier to brush can help minimise tangles, pulling and breakage, which is especially important when you're trying to grow a longer, fuller-looking mane or tail.

Will it stop my horse rubbing its mane or tail?

Mane & Tail Elixir helps condition the hair and skin, but rubbing can have many causes and the Elixir isn't designed to treat or prevent them. If your horse is rubbing excessively, we'd always recommend investigating the underlying cause.

Is it vegan and cruelty-free?

Yes. Mane & Tail Elixir is vegan and, like everything at Honest Riders, cruelty-free.

Can I use it on sensitive horses?

The formula is designed to be gentle, but every horse is different. We recommend patch testing before first use, particularly on horses with known sensitivities.

Can I use it on wet and dry hair?

Yes! Apply it to damp hair after washing as a leave-in conditioner, or use it on dry hair between washes to condition, soften and make brushing easier. There's no need to rinse.

Can I use it on myself?

It's formulated and tested for horses rather than humans, so we can't recommend it as a human haircare product.

How long will one bottle last?

It depends on the length and thickness of your horse's mane & tail and how often you use it, but with typical use 2–3 times a week, one bottle should last approximately 8-12 weeks.

What's the shelf life?

We recommend using your Mane & Tail Elixir within 12 months of opening and storing it somewhere cool and dry, away from direct sunlight.

What happens when I've finished the bottle?

The aluminium bottle is recyclable — simply rinse it and add it to your household recycling where accepted. Better still, keep your pump and order a refill when you're ready for your next bottle.
